Leach Studio Potters: 100 Years On at the Leach Pottery

Leach Studio Potters: 100 Years on at the Leach Pottery.

The inaugural exhibition of the Leach 100 centenary celebrations, 'Leach Studio Potters: 100 Years On' celebrates the rich creative talents of the potters who produce the iconic Leach Standard Ware.

The Leach Pottery, established in 1920, has throughout its history brought together potters from around the world to share and develop their skills and aesthetics. 100 years on, this tradition and camaraderie lives on within today's Studio team, who contribute their individual backgrounds to the Studio's collective environment. It is within this unique setting that ideas resonate, rebound and grow, challenging each potter to push their personal work forward.

The result is a diverse body of work, from functional ware to sculptural pieces, whose aesthetic interweaves with one another and the wider Leach Pottery.

Bernard Leach (1887-1979) was born in Hong Kong and spent large parts of his life travelling in China and Japan, where he was first inspired to explore studio pottery by witnessing the high-temperature raku firing process.
